Charleston Southern's Buccaneer Club

The Buccaneer Club has a new home on the Internet. Membership levels, news, and contact information can be found at www.csubucclub.com.

Long before Buccaneer fans even think of gathering to watch the excitement of NCAA Division I competition, our student-athletes are preparing. Long before the game-winning touchdown is score; the clutch basket is made; the home run is blasted; the birdie putt is sunk’ the ace serve is delivered, or the record is broken, these young men and women and their coaches catch the vision of winning.

An opportunity to achieve and accomplish their vision is the driving force behind the sweat and pain of practice and the unrelenting desire to have the thrill of victory. The risk of defeat is only an obstacle to be overcome in their minds. This vision creates champions, not only athletic champions, but also champions for life.

You have the opportunity to watch the drama unfold by attending any of our 17 NCAA Division I events. But why not go further and catch the athletes’ vision? Your contribution to the Buccaneer Club can help make their vision a reality by funding scholarships and program needs. This brochure outlines the different levels of involvement available. Become a member of the Buccaneer Club – be a part of the future and support their vision.

Following are general questions and answers involving athletic booster club guidelines as it pertains to relationship with a University and/or the athletic program.

Q: As a member of Charleston Southern University's athletics interest (booster club), do NCAA regulations permit me to be involved in the recruiting process?

A: Generally NO! Representatives of an institution's athletics interests are prohibited from making in-person, on or off-campus recruiting contacts, or written or telephonic communications with a prospect or the prospect's relatives of legal guardians.

Q: What penalties are associated with improper recruiting contact occurring between a "booster" and a prospective student athlete?

A: The institution must declare the prospective student athlete immediately ineligible and cease recruitment pending NCAA reinstatement. Depending on the nature of the violation, the institution could face NCAA recruiting sanctions.

Q: Am I permitted to have contact with prospective student athletes regarding employment arrangements?

A: Yes. However, such contact must occur subsequent to the prospect's signing of the National Letter of Intent.

Q: What are the NCAA regulations regarding the receipt of an "extra benefit" by prospective or enrolled student athletes?

A: An "extra benefit" is defined as any special arrangement by an institutional staff member of a representative of the institution's athletics interest (booster) to provide a student athlete or the student athlete's relative or friend a benefit not expressly authorized by the NCAA legislation. Extra benefits include, but are not limited to, the following:
