Tonight's contest was a closer game than the final score might lead one to believe. The Buccaneers started off well by jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the early going, in a first half that saw five lead changes.

Charleston Southern would go into the locker room with a five-point deficit at a score of 30-25.

To start the second half, HPU would go on a 15-6 run that would stretch their lead to its apogee of 14 points.

A layup from Kiki Rutledge would bring Buccaneers margin down to eight points with eight minutes to play, but that would be as close as they would get.

The Bucs had two players to score in double-figures.The Big South's leading scorer Tull led all scorers with 19 points on 5-of-17 shooting from the field.

Despite battling through foul trouble sophomore forward Lakeitha Alston also scored in double figures. She scored 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting as well as pulling down eight boards for CSU. Her foul trouble forced Charleston Southern Head Coach Coach Julie Goodenough to limit her starting forward's minutes throughout the contest.

The Panthers played excellent defense in this afternoon's game. HPU blocked a total of 11 shots and shots that were not blocked were contested, making it tough for CSU's shooters to get open looks both on the perimeter and in the paint.

High Point held the Big South Conference's third leading scorer Kelsey Wasmer scoreless for the night. This was the first game in Wasmer's illustrious career at Charleston Southern in which she failed to make a mark in the scoring column.

HPU also got a good contribution from their bench scoring 24 points compared to only four points for Charleston Southern.

The Bucs' opposition had four players score in double figures. Leading the Panthers was Jurica Hargreaves who had 14 points in only 18 minutes of playing time.

The Buccaneers will play the second leg of their three game road swing next Saturday when they will travel to Asheville, N.C. to take on the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville who the Bucs defeated earlier this season at Buccaneer Field House at a score of 85-74.
