AUBURN, Ala. – Charleston Southern got scoring contributions from nine different players Friday afternoon, but Auburn's pressure proved too much for the Bucs in a 91-42 loss inside Auburn Arena.
Alyssia Faye had season-highs of 13 points and seven rebounds to lead the way for the Bucs.
Janaia Fargo added a season-best 12 points off the bench. Three different Bucs had two assists each, while Fargo had a team-leading three steals.
Sha'Mya Leigh put the Bucs on the board in the early stages with a 3-pointer from the corner, but Auburn followed Leigh's make with a 22-0 run that spanned more than seven minutes. The Bucs ended the run with a pair of free throws from
Makenna Winans but faced an uphill battle after the opening quarter.
Fargo and Faye found their scoring touch in the second quarter, combining for 10 of CSU's 14 points in the quarter. Fargo connected on a pair of 3-pointers and led the Bucs with six points in the first half.
Madison Adamson had four in the quarter to account for CSU's remaining points in the second.
Auburn opened the second half on a 12-0 run, continuing its strong momentum from the opening 20 minutes.
Tori Gittens got in on the scoring action in the third quarter, scoring off a backdoor cut for CSU's opening points of the half. Points came at a premium for the Bucs in the third quarter, as Faye and
Sharita Godfrey were the only other CSU players who scored in the quarter.
CSU's best offensive quarter was the fourth, as the Bucs finished the final 10 minutes level with Auburn at 17-all. Faye and Fargo combined for 13 in the last frame, while
