Slow Start Hurts Bucs in Road Loss to Patriots

FAIRFAX, V.A. - The Charleston Southern women's basketball team fell to the George Mason 74-34 on Wednesday night.

Catherine Alben was the leading scorer for the Bucs (1-3) with eight points overall, and Kennedi Jackson had seven rebounds on the night.

Slow Start
The Bucs struggled from the very beginning shooting the basketball, scoring just four points in the first quarter. They scored their first basket a little under three minutes into the game with a two-point jumper by Jackson. After a basket by Madison Adamson late in the quarter, that would be the last basket that CSU would score for a while. They did not convert another field goal until the 3:04 mark in the second quarter, when Jazmine Jackson knocked down a jumper.

Charleston Southern shot 3/20 from the field in the first half, including 0/10 from the three-point line, as the Patriots took a 31-13 lead into the locker room.

Second Half
The second half was a little bit better for the Buccaneers, who found a little success from the field to start the third quarter. A jumper by Jackson kept things at 18 points for most of the third quarter, until the Patriots extended the lead to 25 points midway through.

In the fourth quarter, George Mason started out hot, as they went on a 25-0 run in the fourth quarter to take a 64-27 lead. Charleston Southern went almost six minutes without scoring a basket during the run. They struggled finding the basket in the fourth quarter as well, scoring just seven points.

Takeaways
Turnovers were once again a problem for the Buccaneers on the night, as they gave the ball away 27 times, which led to 29 points. The Bucs were out-rebounded 50-36, which led to 19 second-chance points for the Patriots
