CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern women's basketball team continues their road trip this Wednesday, as they travel to Farmville, V.A. to take on the Longwood Lancers.
Longwood leads the overall series 13-11 and currently have a five-game winning streak against the Bucs including a 91-59 victory in Farmville last year. This is the first of two between these two teams, with Longwood coming to Charleston on January 28
th.Â

With a record of 1-12 this season, the Lancers have struggled this season, losing 11-straight games coming into Wednesday's matchup. Two of those losses have been from within the conference, as they have lost to High Point and Campbell to start Big South play. The Lancers are coming off of a year that saw them go 15-3 in the Big South, winning the tournament and going to the NCAA Tournament for the first time.Â
Led by Head Coach Erika Lang-Montgomery, the Lancers were picked to finish sixth in the Big South this season after losing multiple starters from their NCAA Tournament team. Lang-Montgomery is in her first season as the Head Coach for Longwood. Prior to being hired at Longwood, she was most recently at the University of Florida as an assistant coach.Â

- The Bucs come into this game with a 2-11 (0-2 in conference) record, having lost seven-straight games. In their last game, they were out-scored 12-5 by the USC Upstate Spartans and lost 59-57 in Spartanburg last Saturday.Â
- Charleston Southern is averaging 50.0 points per game this season, while giving up an average of 74.2 points per game. That is a point differential of -24.2.Â
- The freshman have shined for Head Coach Clarisse Garcia this year. Catherine Alben leads the team in points per game this season, averaging 8.8 ppg. She is also third on the team in rebounds, averaging just under five per game. Five freshman have made at least one start this season for the Bucs.Â
- Kennedi Jackson has been the leader for the Bucs this season on the boards, pulling in 5.6 rebounds per game. Jackson has had two double-doubles this season for CSU, including in the conference opener agianst Gardner-Webb, where she had 12 points and 10 rebounds. On Saturday against USC Upstate, Jackson had 10 points and 6 rebounds, leading the Bucs in both categories.
- Sha'Mya Leigh played 35 minutes on Saturday, scoring 8 points and pulling down 4 rebounds. She is the only player on the team that has started in all 13 games for the Bucs this season.Â
- Against USC Upstate, the Bucs played arguably their best game of the season on the defensive side. They had 12 steals and forced 21 turnovers. Carleigh Andrews led the way with 3 steals.Â
