BURLINGTON, N.C. – Charleston Southern men's golf earned a strong third-place finish at the Elon Phoenix Invitational on Tuesday afternoon, shooting a team total of 844 (-8) over three rounds at Alamance Country Club. The event was contested on a par-71, 6,871-yard layout.
Freshman Owen Newberry paced the Buccaneers with an outstanding runner-up finish, firing rounds of 67, 69, and 66 to post a 202 (-11) overall. Newberry's final-round 66 was among the lowest of the day, capping off a consistent and impressive performance throughout the tournament.
Bailey Bjornson also turned in another excellent showing, tying for 11th in the field. He opened with a 72 and followed it up with back-to-back 68s to finish at 208 (-5).
Dewi John provided steady scoring for the Bucs, tying for 32nd after rounds of 70, 72, and 71 for an even-par total of 213.
Theodor Takman finished 66th overall, shooting 75, 72, and 75 for a 222 (+9) total.
Rounding out the CSU lineup was Alex North, who tied for 82nd with rounds of 74, 76, and 76 to finish at 226 (+13).
As a team, Charleston Southern posted rounds of 283, 281, and 280 — their lowest of the tournament coming on the final day. The Bucs' 280 (-4) in the closing round helped them secure a top-three finish in a competitive 16-team field.
