CHARLESTON - The Big South announced the winners of the annual award winners for men's track and field on Tuesday morning and selected Charleston Southern
Laden Beckwith as the men's track athlete of the year. Beckwith becomes the second winner of the award in school history as Shawn Langley Jr earned it in 2024.
He was the Big South Indoor Champion in the 60m, and posted the top 60m time in the conference this season at 6.73 seconds. Beckwith also medaled in the Big South Indoor 200m with the second-fastest time of the year (21.16), and helped the Bucs finish third in the 4x400m relay at the Conference Meet. Additionally, he helped them to a team runner-up finish and was second in the Freshman of the Year race as he tallied 19.5 points individually.
In the outdoor season, Beckwith swept the 100m and 200m at the Big South Championship, with his winning time of 10.09 seconds in the 100m establishing the Championship Meet record to rank second all-time in league history. His Conference Championship victory in the 200m came in 20.54, which is seventh-fastest all-time in the Big South record book. Beckwith qualified for the NCAA East First Round in both the 100m and 200m, and advanced to the national quarterfinals in the 100m at the meet. He was a three-time Freshman of the Week honoree across both indoor and outdoor seasons.
