Bucs Blast Past Columbia College, 9-1, in Record-Setting Offensive Display

CHARLESTON – The Charleston Southern women's soccer team exploded for nine goals and 41 shots, earning a dominant 9-1 victory over Columbia College on Saturday afternoon at CSU Soccer Field. The nine goals are tied for the fourth-most in a single game in program history, while the 41 shots are also tied for fourth-most all-time.

The Buccaneers wasted little time getting on the board, as Campbell Taylor scored just 2:02 into the match off an assist from Kelly Gende. Columbia College answered less than two minutes later, but CSU quickly regained control as Danika Birch scored in the 13th minute before adding another goal in the 23rd minute to give the Bucs a 3-1 advantage.

Charleston Southern continued its offensive onslaught in the first half, with Jillian Brown scoring in the 27th minute before Nina Meyer found the back of the net less than a minute later. The Buccaneers carried a 5-1 advantage into halftime after recording 24 shots in the opening 45 minutes.

The Bucs added four more goals in the second half. Gende scored her first goal in a Charleston Southern uniform in the 52nd minute, followed by Meyer's second goal of the afternoon in the 59th minute. Brown completed her brace in the 78th minute, while Taylor capped the scoring in the 85th minute with her second goal of the match.

Four Buccaneers recorded braces in the victory, with Taylor, Birch, Meyer and Brown each scoring twice. Taylor scored her first goals in a Charleston Southern uniform, while Birch recorded her first goals of the season and second career brace. Meyer scored the first two goals of her collegiate career, and Brown scored the first two goals of her career.

CSU's nine assists marked the most by the Buccaneers since they recorded nine assists against Brewton-Parker on Aug. 18, 2022. The Bucs also recorded nine goals in that contest, marking the first time CSU has scored nine goals in a game since that 2022 matchup.
