Ryan Thompson

Ryan Thompson joined the Charleston Southern coaching staff for the 2008-09 school year as the men’s and women’s Cross Country and Distance coach. During his time at CSU, Thompson has more than doubled the size of the women’s team, while drastically lowering the average times for both squads.

In 2009, the men’s cross country team posted the fourth-highest team GPA among NCAA Division I programs, earning the NCAA All-Academic Team distinction.

In his first season with the Bucs he coached Andrew King to a victory at the CCU Invitational Cross Country Meet, as well as a school record in the indoor mile. 

Thompson’s teams have recorded numerous individual top-5 finishes in cross country and on the track, while setting five school records on the track. The points picked up by the distance crew proved vital in the men’s runner-up team finish at the 2009-10 Big South Indoor Championships.

Prior to coming to CSU, Thompson was the Assistant Men’s Cross Country Coach at the College of Charleston during 2007-08. 

Thompson is a 2004 graduate of Mercer University with a B.A. in sociology.  He  was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Academic team in 2002 and 2003.  Upon graduation, Thompson went on to earn his MPA in urban public affairs from the College of Charleston. The Auburn, Ala., native is married to the former Anna Guerin.
