CHARLESTON, S.C. – In honor of the school's 50th anniversary, Charleston Southern baseball will wear throwback jerseys later this season featuring CSU's former name, Baptist College. The Bucs will wear the New Balance-made uniforms on Saturday, April 11 against Gardner-Webb at CSU Ballpark.
Lake, a CSU graduate, played when the school transitioned from Baptist College to Charleston Southern University. He remembers the change and wanted to do something different for the current and former players during CSU's semicentennial.
"I graduated from CSU during the 30th anniversary," Lake said Wednesday. "So it is special to me to be coaching here on the 50th anniversary. I'm hopeful this is something that will get some alumni out to this ballpark, which has changed so much through the years, for a fun, homecoming-type weekend."
Additional jerseys and hats will be on sale for $75.00 online in limited supply.
From Baptist College...to Charleston Southern University
Baptist College at Charleston's name was officially changed to Charleston Southern University at the 170th annual session of the South Carolina Baptist Convention Nov. 13, 1990. The name change reflected the institution's move to university status and also followed the recommendation of consultants that a name change would provide broader appeal for prospective students and would give the university a stronger regional presence. The school's move to university status was a result of rapidly expanding graduate programs and resulted in reordering the school into the College of Arts & Sciences, the School of Business and the School of Education.
