FARMVILLE, S.C. – Longwood's Travis Burnette pitched eight scoreless innings and Luke Simpson worked the ninth as the Lancers topped Charleston Southern on Sunday in the Big South Conference series finale, 1-0.
CSU (11-11, 3-3) and Longwood (10-12, 2-4) had five hits apiece in the game.
Longwood scored the game's only run in the fourth as Kyri Washington scored on Michael Osinski's double, the game's only extra-base hit.
Burnette (W, 2-2) struck out six and walked five in his longest outing of the season.
CSU starter Kyle McDorman (L, 1-2) struck out five in 6.1 innings for the Buccaneers. He walked two and surrendered only three hits.
CSU's Brandon Burris was the only player in the game with multiple hits. He was 2-for-4 and stole a base.
The Bucs return to action on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at CSU Ballpark against College of Charleston. CSU will recognize its Men's Basketball Big South Conference Championship team in a pregame ceremony and Head Coach Barclay Radebaugh will throw out the first pitch.
