RADFORD, Va. – Radford scored five runs in the first three innings to build an early lead and held off Charleston Southern for a 6-2 win in their Big South series finale on Sunday afternoon at RU Baseball Stadium.
Radford (36-14, 17-4 Big South) scored in each of its' first three at-bats to build a 5-1 lead off of CSU starter Kyle McDorman (W, 1-6). A two-run home run by Shane Johnsonbaugh helded the Highlanders start fast. RU's first three batters of the game reached, but McDorman worked out of the early jam with minimal damage, trailing 1-0.
CSU (22-25, 9-12) got a run back on a one-out double by Nate Blanchard and an RBI single from Brian Dye to cut the lead to 3-1 in the third. Dye's CSU season-best hitting streak is at18 games, followed by Blanchard's active 17-game streak.
Radford starter Mitchell MacKeith worked 7.0 innings, scattering eight hits and striking out three. Trevor Riggs added a solo home run in the sixth to pushed the lead back out to four and answer Singlton's solo shot.
CSU returns to action on Tuesday at 6 p.m. against College of Charleston at Patriots Point.
