CHARLESTON, S.C. - Six former Charleston Southern Buccaneers are playing at different levels of professional baseball this summer, including major leaguers Tyler Thornburg (Milwaukee Brewers) and Bobby Parnell (New York Mets). Here's a quick look at where the Bucs are and how they're doing as June begins:
Tyler Thornburg –RHP, Milwaukee Brewers
Thornburg has made six appearances this season out of the Brewers' bullpen, all in April. He is currently with the Colorado Sky Sox (AAA) and has made six starts with a 4.45 ERA for the Brewers' AAA affiliate. THORNBURG BIO (Sky Sox)
Bobby Parnell – RHP, New York Mets
Parnell continues to rehab from Tommy John surgery, which cost him all of the 2014 season, following a 2013 season that featured a career high 22 saves. Parnell is expected to begin rehab assignments as soon as June for the second-place Mets.
Ali Williams – RHP, NW Arkansas Natural (Royals AA)
Williams is holding opponents to a .171 average for the Northwest Arkansas Natural, the Royal's AA affiliate in the Texas League. He's pitched 11.2 innings and has made 10 appearances in relief. WILLIAMS BIO
Bobby Ison – OF, Lake County Captains (Indians A)
In his first full season in the minors, Ison has played in 41 of 44 games from the Cleveland Indians' A affiliate, Lake County. Ison is batting .233 with 34 hits in 146 at-bats this season. He has an on-base percentage of .301 and is batting over .300 in the last week, hitting safely in 6-of-7 games. ISON BIO
Alex Tomasovich – INF, Traverse City Beach Bums (Frontier League)
Tomasovich is second on the team, batting .304 for the Beach Bums two weeks into the Frontier League season. The former Buc is tied for the team lead in hits and doubles early in the year and has an on-base percentage of .385. Tomasovich was drafted by the Cubs last June in the 20th round.
Patrick Dolan – RHP, Rockford Aviators (Frontier League)
After signing with Rockford in February, Dolan has made four appearances for the Aviators early in the Frontier season. He is 0-1, but has a pair of scoreless relief appearances to his credit. He has three Ks in 3.2 innings of work and has yet to surrender a walk. Dolan was with the Evansville Otters in the Frontier League in 2012-13.
