Bucs’ Tomasovich drafted by Oakland A’s in 21st round

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Oakland Athletics selected Charleston Southern left-hander Andrew Tomasovich in the 21st round of the 2015 Major League Draft on Wednesday afternoon. Tomasovich was the 638th overall pick in the draft.

Tomasovich, a junior from Tega Cay, S.C., was 7-7 this season for the Bucs and had a 3.09 ERA and averaged 9.58 strikeouts per nine innings, which was among the leaders in the Big South Conference. As a team, the Bucs had 471 strikeouts, a CSU single-season record. His seven wins this season were tied for the most by a Buc since 2005, joining Ryan Gunther, who was drafted by the Braves in the 12th round of the 2013 draft.

The Bucs' Friday night starter, Tomasovich had four games with double digits in strikeouts including a career-high 13 in a shutout of LaSalle in February. He also came on to strike out four of the five batters he faced to pick up a midweek win against The Citadel in April at CSU Ballpark.

Tomasovich is 14-15 in his CSU career and has made 33 career starts with a 3.80 ERA. He has 177 career strikeouts in 210 innings as a Buc.

Tomasovich's older brother, Alex, was drafted last season by the Chicago Cubs in the 20th round.
