Bucs begin Fall Ball homestretch tonight; Blue-Gold World series set for Oct. 22-25

CHARLESTON, S.C. – CSU begins the "second half" of fall practice tonight when the Bucs get together to practice and scrimmage at CSU Ballpark. After a five-day break for fall break, the Bucs will turn on the lights at 6 p.m. to begin their fall homestretch.

CSU head coach Stuart Lake has been pleased with his squad's resilience through the tragic flooding that occurred earlier this month and adjusting to an infield that has just been re-sodded. Despite the unfriendly baseball conditions at times, Lake still likes the potential he sees and hopes the obstacles will pay dividends come spring.

"It's been tough, but there has still been enough that you can evaluate," Lake said. "Weight room wise, I've been very pleased. We've had to get creative with field construction and weather. We've thrown in parking lots, we've done some things you're not used to doing, but maybe it prepares you for the adversity of a season. It would be hard to complain with what everybody else is going through."

The results of summer ball have been pretty obvious to Lake, who enters his eighth season at CSU this fall. A handful of Bucs made their respective all-star teams in various leagues. The Bucs pitching staff will also be significantly bolstered by three returners who missed the '15 season to injury,

"You can tell a lot of guys went away and played," "Excited to have (Evan) Raynor back. He gives you that senior leader. Daniel Johnson came back looking sharp, and some other guys have come back from injury like Tyler Weekley, Evan Nations, and Wil Harstell. Offensively, you can really tell (Nate) Blanchard, (Cole) Murphy, and (Sly) Edawards went away and played this summer. I've been excited about some of our young catchers and Chris Singleton has really turned into a team leader."

The Bucs have four scrimmages ahead of the Blue-Gold World Series, which begins next Thursday. The possibility exists that CSU could add a weekend of practice at the end of October that was lost to rain and flooding.
