CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Buccaneers will put the finishing touches on fall baseball practice this weekend with the annual Blue & Gold World Series at CSU Ballpark. The games – and Friday's Golf Tournament – are set around Parents' Weekend as the Buc baseball family gets together for the final time before the spring semester.
The three-game series begins on Thursday evening at CSU Ballpark. First pitch is at 7 p.m. Student coach Sam Remick and Stew Brase will manage the two teams. The Building Buccaneer Baseball Golf Tournament is set for Friday at Kiawah, with two more game scheduled on Saturday and Sunday at CSU Ballpark.
"This is always a fun part of our year," CSU head coach Stuart Lake said on Wednesday. "All of the parents and players get to come together and put on different uniform and really compete for a few days. It brings a lot of energy to our fall season."
Team Brase will be led by seniors Bryan Dye, Sly Edwards, and junior Nate Blanchard, while Team Remick will be led by senior SS Cole Murphy and senior pitchers Evan Raynor and Jon Piriz. With almost six months from the beginning of school in the fall until the college baseball season begins in February, the series is the last chance to set an on-field tone heading into winter.
"We're hoping to finish out the fall strong," Lake said. "In November and December for us, we really get in the weight room and work in the classroom to finish up the semester strong and set a good tone for the spring."
