Longwood takes series finale from Bucs, 13-4

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Longwood rallied from a three-run deficit to take the series finale from Charleston Southern, 13-4, on Monday afternoon at CSU Ballpark. 

The Lancers scored five runs in the fifth and seven more in the sixth to rally from a 4-1 deficit to complete the series sweep. LWU improves to 18-11 overall and 6-3 in Big South play, while CSU falls to 11-17 and 1-5 in league play. 

GAME TIME CHANGE: Tuesday's CSU-Citadel matchup at CSU Ballpark has been moved to 5 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for 6 p.m. 

LWU's Drew Kitson hit a three-run home run off of  reliever Alex Ministeri to open the floodgates for the Lancers in the fifth. Connar Bastaich added a two-run single in the fifth. He finished 2-for-5 with four RBI and scored twice. 

Longwood broke the game open in the sixth, piling up seven hits in the frame, led by a two-run single from C.J. Roth. 

CSU led 4-1 early on a solo home run by Chris Singleton and an RBI double by Kevin Hickey. The Bucs were in position to do more damage during a three-run fourth, but

LWU starter Michael Catlin got Mason McClellan to bounce into an inning-ending double play to minimize the CSU damage. 

Relievers Devin Gould (W, 1-0) and Allen Ellis (S, 1) held CSU scoreless over the final five innings. 

Hickey, Sly Edwards, and Mike Sconzo were all 2-for-3 for the Bucs. Reliever Eddie Hiott held Longwood scoreless over the final three innings.  

Starter Jon Piriz (L, 1-3) took the loss, working 4.2 innings for the Bucs. 

CSU will host The Citadel on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at CSU Ballpark.
