LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty stack up 14 hits and held off a late Charleston Southern rally to win the series finale on Sunday at Liberty Baseball Stadium, 9-6.
The win gives Liberty (19-15, 5-4 Big South) the series win as well. CSU falls to 13-19 overall and 2-7 in league play.
The Flames scored four runs in the third and added two more in the fifth and sixth to eventually build a five-run lead.
CSU scored twice in the ninth and put the tying run at the plate, but Shane Quarterly (S, 5) got Cole Murphy to ground out to the end the Bucs' last gasp.
Edwards was 2-for-3 and scored three runs. He had his Big South-leading fifth triple and scored in the ninth. Sconzo had a career high three hits, scoring twice and driving in two runs. Chris Singleton added two sacrifice flies and a diving catch in right in the fifth to save a run.
Liberty erased an early 1-0 CSU lead with five consecutive hits off of starter Evan Nations (L, 0-4) in the third. Andrew Yacyk's two-run double gave the Flames was the big blow in the inning.
Liberty out hit the Bucs, 14-10. CSU used seven pitchers in the loss.
CSU plays a midweek home-and-home with Savannah State. The Bucs host the Tigers on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at CSU Ballpark, before returning the trip on Wednesday.
