Bucs can’t find answer for Gardner-Webb

Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb's offense came alive to score at least one run in each of the first seven innings to defeat Charleston Southern 21-2 on Saturday's game at John H. Moss Stadium.

The Bulldogs took an early lead with Danny Sullivan's two-run homer in the first inning and never looked back, piling up 23 hits.

CSU didn't respond until the 3rd inning, when Nate Blanchard's double brought home the Bucs' first run to cut the lead to 3-1, but G-W blew the game open with six runs in the bottom half.

Gardner-Webb's offense combined for 23 hits, including Colin Thacker's perfect 5-for-5 performance at the plate. CSU's Nate Blanchard went 2-for-3 with two doubles, and had to Bucs only two RBI's.

Daniel Johnson (L 4-4) took the loss for the Bucs after pitching two and two-thirds innings. He allowed eight runs, seven earned, on nine hits and two walks.

Jeremy Walker (W 6-4) notched the win for GWU. He pitched six innings and allowed one unearned run, striking out eight.

The two teams will meet in the series finale tomorrow. First pitch will be at 2 p.m.
