BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb scored a run in five different innings to overcome an early deficit and hand Charleston Southern a 5-2 loss on Sunday afternoon at John H. Moss Stadium.
CSU (15-26, 3-12 Big South) led 2-1 after a pair of runs in the fourth, but GWU answered with a run in four of its final five at-bats to sweep the series with the Buccaneers.
Gardner-Webb (29-14, 8-7) out hit the Bucs 11-6, including a solo home run from Patrick Graham in the seventh. He finished 2-for-3.
GWU starter Bradley Hallman (W, 5-3) worked 5.1 innings and scattered six hits.
The Bucs had a chance to build a larger lead in the fourth. Mike Sconzo's RBI single and a bases-loaded walk to Ryan Maksim pushed two runs across, but Hallman go out of the inning with a strikeout and ground out, despite issuing three walks in the frame.
Mason McClellan and Mike Sconzo each had two hits for the Bucs.
CSU faces Wofford on Tuesday night in Lexington, S.C. First pitch is at 6 p.m. at Lexington Baseball Stadium.
