LEXINGTON, S.C. – Wofford's Elliott Lance, with the help of some big defensive plays, tossed a complete-game shutout at Charleston Southern on Tuesday night at Lexington Stadium, 4-0.
Lance (6-0) held the Bucs to four singles in the first complete game of his career. He struck out only one, but walked one and recorded 12 fly outs.
CSU (15-27) had a chance to put pressure on in the eighth, but a diving catch by Wofford centerfielder Kody Ruedisili in the gap took away a Ryan Maksim double and saved two runs.
Wofford (25-18) scored a couple of early runs off of starter Eddie Hiott (L, 0-1) to spoil a night in which six Buc pitchers combined on 12 strikeouts.
Wofford's Dylan May was 3-for-5 and Ruedisili hit a solo home run to left in the eighth to lead the Terrier offense.
CSU's Kevin Hickey was 2-for-4 and was robbed of a third hit with a diving grab in the ninth.
CSU has a week off for exams before traveling to Winthrop for a Big South series May 6-8.
