ROCK HILL, S.C. - Charleston Southern ended its offensive slump with a resounding bang on Saturday night and Bryan Dye was a big reason why. Dye was 5-for-5 with two home runs and seven RBI to spark the Buccaneers to a 17-5 win over Winthrop at Winthrop Ballpark.
CSU (16-28, 4-13 Big South) hit a season-high four home runs and piled up 19 hits in its best offensive game of the season. Winthrop (24-21, 9-8) scored three late runs, but never threatened after a couple of big, early innings from the Bucs.
The teams meet at 2 p.m. on Sunday in the rubber game.
The Bucs' scored in six different innings to even the series with the Eagles. Bryan Dye hit two home runs, the first Buc to do so this season, and had seven RBI as CSU had its best offensive game of the year. Mike Sconzo had four RBI and was 3-for-6 to add to the offensive explosion.
Dye hit a three-run homer in the first off of Winthrop starter Zachary Slighter (L, 4-5) to get the Bucs off to a hot starter. CSU added four runs in three different middle innings to blow the game open. Dye added two-run shot in the fifth as the Bucs began to pour it on. Nate Blanchard hit a two-run homer run in the fourth and Brandon Gragilla chipped a solo home run.
Six Bucs had a mutli-hit game including three each for Chris Singleton, Brandon Gragilla, and Sconzo.
