ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop starter Thad Harris pitched seven scoreless innings and Zach Cook handled the final two to preserve the shutout as Winthrop took the series finale from Charleston Southern on Sunday afternoon, 1-0.
Harris (W, 6-3) struck out five and held CSU to six singles to give Winthrop (25-21, 10-8) the series win. The Eagles' line run came in the second on an RBI single by Grant English off of CSU starter Evan Nations (L, 1-4).
CSU's Chris Singleton was 3-for-4 and helped the Bucs put runners in scoring position with one out in the eighth, but Cook (S, 8) induced back-to-back groundouts to end CSU's biggest threat of the day.
WU's Anthony Paulsen was 3-for-4 to match Singleton's three hits. Roger Gonzalez added three hits for the Eagles.
CSU travels to North Carolina Central on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. first pitch.
