CLINTON, S.C. – Jack Crittenberger was 3-for-4 with three RBI and Charleston Southern scored the final five runs as the Buccaneers wrapped up the 2016 season with a 9-4 win at Presbyterian College of Saturday afternoon.
CSU (19-34) scored three runs in the eighth and added two insurance runs in the ninth to break open a 4-4 game at the time. Crittenberger had a two-run single in the ninth and Cole Murphy had an RBI single in the eighth as a lineup full of Bucs seniors delivered in their final college game.
The Bucs got a strong final four innings out of their bullpen as Alex Ministeri, Chayce Hubbard (W, 1-2), and Cody Smith (S, 2). Hubbard hit a batter in the seventh, PC's only runner over the final three innings. Smith retired all six batters he faced to end the game.
The Bucs capitalized on seven walks and three wild pitches by PC as Blue Hose' mistakes helped CSU pull away. Two walks and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases for CSU in the eighth. Murphy's single was the only offensive blow for CSU in the decisive inning. Two wild pitches and a passed ball kept the Bucs moving around the bases.
Crittenberger had an RBI single in the second to tie the game at 1-1 at the time. Brandon Burris added a 2-for-4 day in his final game. Starter Jon Piriz worked five innings, holding PC to three earned runs and striking out three.
