CHARLESTON, S.C. – Former Charleston Southern pitchers Evan Raynor and Alex Ministeri have signed contracts with the Independent League. Raynor signed earlier this week with the Lake Erie Crushers and Ministeri has signed to play for the Southern Illinois Miners. Both teams are part of the Frontier League.
Both pitchers wrapped up their senior season with the Buccaneers last month.
Raynor was the Bucs' ace this past season, starting the weekend series opener throughout the year. He finished 4-5 overall this season and 8-10 for his career, despite leading the Big South Conference in ERA for much of the season. The Florence, S.C. product had 77 strikeouts in 78.0 IP this season, finishing with a 3.23 ERA. He had 155 strikeouts in two seasons with the Bucs.
Raynor got off to a 3-0 start this season, keying a 4-3 win over West Virginia in the season opener, eventually adding wins over Butler, UMass, and George Washington in non-conference play. He pitched a complete game in a 1-0 loss to Gardner-Webb in April, scattering five hits. He also worked seven innings in CSU's 6-4 win over then-No. 20 Coastal Carolina.
Ministeri made 19 appearances in his two seasons at CSU, mostly in relief. The left-nader had 24 strikeouts in 26. 2 IP, going 1-2 with a save in two seasons. He picked up a win in March, lifting the Bucs to a 3-1 win over USC Upstate to get the Bucs off to a 9-5 start.
