CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern will host 29 games at the CSU Ballpark as CSU head coach Stuart Lake announced the 2017 baseball schedule on Tuesday morning.
The Buccaneers will host weekend series against Delaware State, VCU, Hofstra, Liberty, Gardner-Webb, Radford, Presbyterian, and Air Force while continuing home-and-home series with College of Charleston, The Citadel, and Savannah State. The Buccaneers will split midweek hosting duties with Big South opponent Winthrop in the 2017 season.
CSU's 2017 road schedule includes weekend series at FIU, Longwood, Campbell, UNC Asheville, and High Point. The Bucs will also make midweek trips to South Carolina (Mar. 22) and Clemson (Apr. 11). CSU will also take on Wofford and USC Upstate in Lexington, S.C. for single midweek games in late March and late April.
"We are very excited to take on this challenging schedule that is in front of us this spring," Lake said. "We have many opportunities in the nonconference portion of the schedule that will prepare us for our eight weekends of play in the Big South, one of the top baseball conferences in the country. We are also excited that we have 29 opportunities to play in front of our home crowd at CSU Ballpark."
The Bucs host 10 of the first 11 games to open the season with Delaware State (Feb. 17-19), VCU (Feb. 24-26), USC Upstate (Mar. 1), and Hofstra (Mar. 4-5) making the trip to Charleston. CSU travels to Savannah State on February 21 for the Bucs' lone away game over the first month of play.
CSU travels to FIU (Mar. 9-11) over Spring Break, before welcoming Winthrop to the Ballpark on March 15 to open Big South Conference play. The Bucs head back on the road for a weekend series at Longwood (Mar. 17-19) and an away game at USC Upstate (Mar. 21).
CSU's first Big South home weekend features a three-game series against Liberty on March 24-26. A neutral site game against USC Upstate (Mar. 28), a home midweek matchup against Savannah State (Mar. 29) and a road conference series at Campbel (Mar. 31-Apr. 2) end the second month of competition.
April features road contests at Winthrop (Apr. 5), UNC Asheville (Apr. 7-9), Clemson (Apr. 11), and The Citadel (Apr. 18). The Bucs host The Citadel (Apr. 4), CofC (Apr. 12), Gardner-Webb (Apr. 13-15), and Radford (Apr. 21-23) during the month. CSU will close out the month with a neutral site contest against Wofford on April 25.
Following the final exam break, CSU travels to High Point (May 5-7) to open the final stretch prior to the 2017 Big South Baseball Tournament. The Bucs host Presbyterian on May 12-14 to close out conference competition. The Bucs close out the road portion of the schedule on May 16 at Patriots Point against College of Charleston.
Senior Weekend will be held at the Ballpark against Air Force on May 18-20.
The Big South Baseball Championships will be held at the Lexington County Baseball on May 23-27.
