CSU completes the conference sweep with the 4-1 win over Radford on Sunday

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern closed out the series sweep over Radford on Sunday afternoon as the Buccaneers' bullpen again stole the spotlight in the 4-1 win at the CSU Ballpark.

Cody Maw (3-2) picked up the win with 3.1 innings in relief on Sunday to pace a Bucs' (20-20, 9-9) effort that saw the bullpen go the final eight innings in the contest to shut down the Highlanders for the third time this weekend. Maw allowed six hits and one run while striking out one in the win. Cody Smith (S, 7) picked up his seventh save going the final 1.2 innings' and striking out the side in the ninth to secure the victory.

Jason Miller led the Bucs' efforts at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance while scoring a run. Chris Singleton touched the plate twice on a 2-for-4 day and added three stolen bases in the win.

Ryan Sande (0-3) suffered the loss for the Highlanders (16-23, 6-9) in the contest going the first five innings and allowing five hits and two unearned runs while striking out two. The Bucs added their final two runs in the sixth and seventh innings off of reliever Mack Krupp to close out the scoring.

The Bucs' home Big South sweep was CSU's first since April 10-12, 2015 when CSU took all three contests from Gardner-Webb at the Ballpark.

CSU starter Kyle Dyson struck out a pair in the top of the first inning before turning the ball over to the bullpen in the top of the second.  Ryan Stoudemire pitched the Bucs out of a jam in the second inning getting an inning-ending double play, while Maw was able to force the double play in the top of the fourth to keep the Highlanders off the board.

The Bucs took advantage of a pair of Radford errors in the bottom of the fourth to take the early 2-0 lead. Jason Miller led off with a single and advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt that sailed down the right field line. Singleton brought him home two batters later with a base hit over the drawn-in infield. The CSU centerfielder promptly stole second and then scored two batters later on an errant throw by the RU shortstop on Kyle Vesnesky's grounder.

Radford pulled back within one in the top of the sixth thanks to alert running by Kyle Butler. Butler led off the frame with an infield single and stole second. He advanced to third on a grounder to the right side and then scored on a wild pitch to cut the CSU lead down to 2-1.

Mike Sconzo put the Bucs' third run across the plate in the bottom of the sixth driving in Singleton. Singleton reached on a one-out bunt single and made his way around the bases with a pair of steals. Sconzo brought him home with a base hit to shallow left centerfield to add to the Bucs' lead.

Alex Andronica scored CSU's final run of the contest in the bottom of the seventh as the throw by the Radford catcher on the Bucs' double steal attempt sailed into left field allowing him to score on the play.

Smith entered the contest with two-on and one-out in the top of the eight before getting the final two batters in the frame to end the RU rally. The CSU relief ace struck out the side in the ninth to close out the contest.
