Comeback Falls Short as Bucs Drop Finale at The Citadel

Charleston, S.C. - The Buccaneers couldn't capitalize on any of their hits until the ninth inning, leaving their comeback short in their 6-2 loss to The Citadel on Sunday.

Charleston Southern collected 12 hits over nine innings, but didn't score any runs until the final inning. The Bucs loaded the bases on three singles and Alex Andronica cashed in with a ground rule double to that bounced over the wall in left center field. Two more runners were on, but a line out ended the game in the next at bat.

The Citadel hit well all game and managed to put up runs in five of their eight innings at the plate. Jonathan Sabo's homer in the bottom of the first gave the Bulldogs a lead they held the entire game.

The Buccaneers left eight runners on base and left at least one runner on in the final five innings of the game.

Alex Bialakis (2-0) got the win for The Citadel. He threw six scoreless innings with five hits and four strikeouts.

Tyler Weekley (1-2) took the loss for CSU, pitching five innings and allowing five runs runs, four earned, on seven hits, one walk, and one strikeout.
