Charleston, S.C. - Five runs in the first three innings gave Holy Cross all the offense they needed in their 5-0 win over Charleston Southern on Friday night.
In the top of the second inning, a grounder with the bases loaded might have been a double play to retire the side, but the play developed too slowly and a run scored giving Holy Cross 1-0 lead.
The next inning, Holy Cross brought four runs across on three different RBI singles. From there, the Buccaneer bullpen kept the Crusaders off the board and allowed just one hit in five and one third innings pitched collectively between Cody Maw and Jamison Mobbs.
Charleston Southern could never quite get in a rhythm offensively. They scattered five hits across the board and were hitless in five innings.
Pat McGowan (1-2) picked up the win for Holy Cross. He threw seven scoreless innings and allowed three hits, one walk, and struck out four.
Nik Constantakos (2-2) took the loss of CSU, pitching three and two thirds innings with eight hits, five runs, three walks, and three strikeouts.
