Clemson, S.C. - Three home runs plated all five of Clemson's runs as they shut out Charleston Southern 5-0 on Tuesday night.
Clemson's Grayson Byrd accounted for all of the Tigers' runs with his three home runs. He hit solo home runs in the second and seventh innings along with a three-run shot in the fourth.
The Bucs pitching staff threw well as a whole. Outside of Byrd's three hits, the other Tigers could only tally three hits. Wil Hartsell and Taylor Cox combined to pitch four innings with just one run, four hits, and five strikeouts.
Charleston Southern had few chances to put runs on the board. Their best chance came after back-to-back singles and a walk loaded the bases with just one out in the sixth inning. After a Clemson pitching change, the next two CSU batters struck out to strand all three runners. The Bucs had two aboard in the ninth as well, but the game ended on a double play.
Holt Jones (2-0) picked up the win for Clemson. He threw five and one third scoreless innings and allowed two hits, two walks, and struck out eight.
Jaret Bennett (0-2) took the loss for CSU, pitching four innings with two hits, four runs, one walk, and six strikeouts.
