Charleston, S.C. - After Charleston Southern (13-31, 4-15) took an early 4-0 lead, Winthrop (21-23, 13-6) battled back and took the lead in the late innings to finish off a 5-4 win on Friday night.
CSU scored four runs in the second inning to get on the board first. Ryan Stoudemire walked and later scored on Aaron Miller's single. Later in the inning, Josh Peters hit a line drive deep to left field that cleared the fence for a three run home run giving CSU the 4-0 advantage.
In the middle innings, Winthrop began making a comeback. It started in the fourth inning, when two singles brought home a run. The Eagles added another run in the sixth inning after a two-out double was followed by a RBI single.
A two run home run in the seventh tied the game at four, but Winthrop wouldn't take the lead until the eighth inning, when a hit batter later came around to score on a RBI single.
Nate Pawelczyk (6-4) got the win for Winthrop. He worked seven innings with four runs on nine hits, three walks, and four strikeouts.
Seth Owens (0-1) took the loss for CSU, pitching one third of an inning and allowing one run with one strikeout.
Jason Crumley (1) picked up the save for Winthrop with two scoreless innings, one hit, and one walk.
