Charleston, S.C. - In their crucial Big South Conference series, Charleston Southern (17-33, 8-17) fell 7-1 to UNC Asheville (13-36, 8-17) in the series opener on Thursday night.
The Bulldogs put together an impressive hitting display with seven runs on 13 hits, but 11 of those were singles. Danny Wilson finished 5-for-5 with three RBI to lead UNC Asheville offensively.
Ryan Stoudemire provided the only run for CSU. He hit a solo home run in the second inning that, at the time, tied the game. The Bulldogs went on to score seven unanswered runs, while CSU could only muster three hits in the contest.
After this game, four teams are now tied for seventh place in the Big South. Presbyterian lost today and Longwood did not play, leaving those teams plus CSU and UNC Asheville tied with 8-17 conference records. Only the top eight teams make next week's tournament.
Blake Brown (1-5) got the win for UNC Asheville. He worked seven innings with one run, three hits and seven strikeouts.
Evan Nations (1-3) took the loss for CSU. He pitched five innings and allowed three runs on seven hits, two walks, and four strikeouts.
