CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern slugger Max Ryerson was named the Big South's Freshman of the Week for a second-consecutive time after another strong week at the plate, as announced Sunday by the conference office.
A freshman from Myrtle Beach, S.C., Ryerson hit three home runs, had five RBI's, scored five runs himself and had a .438 average and 1.036 slugging percentage. Ryerson hit the go-ahead two-run blast Thursday night to give the Bucs a 7-5 lead before going on to win the series opener.
He also hit two doubles over the Bucs' four contests while going deep in all three home games versus Presbyterian bringing his total to nine in his debut campaign. Ryerson's third blast also made him the second Buccaneer with 40-plus RBI's joining fellow slugger Ryan Stoudemire.
Ryerson is the first Buccaneer to take home accolades in consecutive weeks and the second Buccaneer to earn multiple awards joining classmate RJ Petit, who has been tabbed both Freshman and Relief Pitcher of the Week during Big South play.
The Buccaneers begin their pursuit of a Big South Championship Tuesday night in Fayetteville, N.C. at the brand new Segra Stadium. First pitch is slated for 7:30 p.m. on ESPN3 versus the No. 8 seed USC Upstate with the winner advancing to Wednesday and the double elimination bracket. The Bucs seek four-consecutive wins over the Spartans after sweeping the weekend set just eight days ago at CSU Ballpark.
