CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern cheerleading squad is hosting tryouts on two separate dates as the Buccaneers look to set the squad for the 2019-2020 season.
The Buccaneers will host the first tryout on April 6, while the second in-person tryout will be held on June 15th. Both tryouts will be held in the Brewer Center on the campus of Charleston Southern University. Both tryouts will run from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Video tryouts are accepted for individuals who are out of state or those who cannot make in-person tryouts. Videos must be submitted by 10 a.m. on the day of the last tryout - June 15.
About the Charleston Southern Cheerleaders
The CSU cheerleaders are a vital part of the athletic culture at Charleston Southern University. The cheerleaders attend all home football and basketball games, as well as attend key away games during the 2019 football season and both the men's and women's Big South Basketball Tournaments in March 2020.
The cheerleading team at Charleston Southern University is a fully functional team with elements including stunting, tumbling, jumps, band dances, and cheers. The team will also focus on leadership and service to the school and community and will participate in required service projects. The cheerleading team is working toward a competition-based format.

TRYOUTS: (choose one)
April 6, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. – Brewer Center
June 15 – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. - Brewer Center
Video Tryouts submitted on June 15th
For individuals out of state or those who cannot make in-person tryouts, Video Tryouts are available. The individual should demonstrate on video a cheer, dance, jumps (toe touch, right and left hurdler, and right and left pike), and both standing and running tumbling. At the beginning of the video please state your name and location along with a short introduction. Cheerleaders should be dressed as if they were attending an in-person tryout. All paperwork needs to be filled out, signed and turned in before any video will be reviewed.
WHAT TO WEAR:
- Gold or navy shorts and plain white t-shirts.
- Bow (for girls).
- Cheerleading shoes.
- No CSU Gear.
*All will be scored on their collegiate appearance.

- Copy of most recent physical (within the last 12 months)
- Proof of insurance
*Incoming or transfer students will have to bring proof of acceptance to CSU.
