CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charleston Southern quarterback Shane Bucenell has been named the Big South Conference Come Ready Nutrition Freshman of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Bucenell threw for 149 yards and four touchdowns to help CSU defeat Coastal Carolina, 59-58, in double overtime on Saturday.
Making his second career start, Bucenell came through with touchdown passes of 24 and 15 yards in overtime to help the Bucs prevail. He missed most of the second half with cramping issues but returned to find Colton Korn for a touchdown in the first overtime and Jared Scotland for what proved to be the winning score in the second extra session. Bucenell also ran for 13 yards and helped CSU control the football for 42:41 in regulation.
Monmouth wide receiver Reggie White Jr. was named Big South Offensive Player of the Week, while Gardner-Webb defensive end Juwan Wells earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. Monmouth kicker Matt White was the Special Teams Player of the Week.
