After four years at Charleston Southern, starting linebacker, Zane Cruz says football has taught him how to take care of business. "I've learned to take responsibility to the next level and how to take advice and apply it."

Cruz finished his junior season with a 2016 Big South Second Team All-Conference selection. He ended 25th in the Big South in tackles per game and 14th in the Big South in tackles per game by a linebacker.

You've seen his name in headlines, but what lies under the helmet for this senior from Jacksonville, Florida?

Favorite hobby: Hunt/Fish

Favorite color: Green

If you could do anything for a day, money isn't an issue, what would you do? I would take my whole family on a vacation to anywhere they wanted.

Is your glass half full or half empty? I am a realistic person, so I would say half empty.

Favorite movie: The Shawshank Redemption

If a movie was made of your life, who would you want to play you? Tom Cruise

What are two words your teammates would use to describe you on the field? Passionate and energetic

What are two words you would use to describe yourself off the field? Humble and polite

Favorite sports team: Jacksonville Jaguars

Favorite childhood memory: I grew up on a farm and there are infinite things to do. We'd plow the fields, ride horses, burn the fields, tend to our gardens and feed all of the animals.

Favorite type of food: American. Like cheeseburgers, steak and fries.

What's the most surprising song on your playlist? Sleepy Head by passion Pit. It's a song me and all the guys would listen to freshman year.

Secret talent: I can play the guitar pretty well and the piano a little bit. 

If you were a super hero, what would your name and power be? My family and everyone calls me Z so that would be my name and I'd want to do it all. How about telepathy and teleportation.

If you didn't play football, what other sport would you want to play? Baseball. I started playing baseball when I was four and then quite when I got to high school because I fell in love with football.

Who is your biggest role model? My mom for all the things she's been through. She raised me to be a respectful a man and to know how to treat a woman. She's a hard worker.

What is the best advice you've ever received? My dad was my pop warner coach and after a bad play I would beat myself up. He'd tell me "It's not about the last one, it's about the next one."

What is your favorite thing about football? Hitting

What was your favorite thing about growing up in Florida? Living on a farm and getting to do whatever I wanted and get away with it.

Favorite season: Summer and winter. I like fall because of football, but I hate the weather transition months like spring.

After all his time at CSU, Cruz said he'll never forget going through summer workouts with the whole team. "They were hard, but we would bond and have a lot of fun. We had workouts like the 4th of July where everyone dresses up crazy and where we would go to the beach to work out."

The Buccaneers will travel to Boiling Springs, North Carolina on Saturday to face the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs. Kick-off is set for 1:30 p.m. The game will be featured on College Football Down South available to the Charleston area on WCIV MYTV.
