CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern's Kameron Brown and Solomon Brown will represent the Buccaneers at the 2018 Big South Conference Football Media Day in Charlotte, N.C. this Tuesday, July 24. Live coverage of the Big South's annual preseason event will be available Tuesday on ESPN3 and the Big South Network.
Along with CSU head coach Mark Tucker, Brown and Brown will preview the 2018 team as the Bucs look to bounce back from a tough 2017 campaign. CSU went 6-5 in the 2017 season with key wins over Gardner-Webb, Presbyterian, and a season finale win against FBS-bound Liberty behind the clutch last-second field goal from returning senior Tyler Tekac. Brown and Brown are two of seven returning all-conference selections from a roster that features 18 returning starters from last season's team.
Kameron Brown led the Big South in yards per catch and was in the top 10 in the NCAA FCS individual rankings for the second consecutive season after averaging 22.1 yards per reception in 2017. The rising redshirt junior receiver posted four 100-plus yard receiving games including a career-high 123 yards on five receptions against Monmouth. He added an 87-yard touchdown reception in CSU's win over Mississippi Valley State.
Solomon Brown transitioned from linebacker to defensive end in 2017 but kept up his All-Conference ways in earning Big South recognition. He was second among Big South defensive linemen with 5.8 tackles per game and finished eighth in the conference in sacks (3.5) and eighth in tackles for loss (8.0). Brown was at his best against the best with a season-high 11 tackles and a tackle for loss against Indiana, as well as a pair of 10 tackle games against both Gardner-Webb and Kennesaw State.
As part of the annual event, the conference will announce its preseason All-Conference teams in a video presentation. In addition, the Big South head football coaches will speak at the luncheon and the preseason Players of the Year will be recognized. The preseason poll and preseason All-Conference teams will first be posted on the Big South's Social Media platforms, and later available online at www.BigSouthSports.com starting at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
Again this year, the Big South Network will broadcast interviews with each team's head coach and student-athletes in attendance as part of a live show hosted by Mike Hogewood starting at approximately 1:30 p.m. (see below for full schedule). In addition, ESPN3 will carry the event for the fifth consecutive year.
Fans can follow Football Media Day and engage with the event using the hashtag #BigSouthFB on the Big South's social platforms. The day will include various posts on the league's main @BigSouthSports Twitter account and Instagram, as well as a Facebook Live segment with the student-athletes Tuesday morning from 8:30-10:30 a.m.
