CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) - Charleston Southern was picked third in the annual Big South Conference Preseason Football Poll as announced Tuesday at the league's annual Media Day.
The Buccaneers received six second place votes, nine third place votes, and three fourth place selections to receive 75 total points in the poll conducted by the league's head coaches and a media panel.
2018 Big South Champion Kennesaw State received 17 first place votes in being installed as the preseason favorites, while Monmouth received the remaining first place vote in finishing second in the poll. Gardner-Webb (52), Campbell (36), and Presbyterian (26) rounded out the annual preseason poll.
CSU went 6-5 in the 2017 season with key wins over Gardner-Webb, Presbyterian, and a season finale win against FBS-bound Liberty in Head Coach Mark Tucker's first season at the helm. The Bucs return 18 starters from last season's team with 10 recognized with Big South Preseason All-Conference accolades this afternoon.
CSU reports for fall camp on August 2 and is slated to open practice on August 3. The Bucs kick off the season on Saturday, Sept. 1 at Florida.
The preseason favorite has gone on to win at least a share of the conference championship in 13 of the Big South's 16 years of football.
