CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Charleston Southern senior cornerback James Allen was named the Big South Conference Football Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday afternoon, as announced by the conference office.
The weekly accolade was the first of the Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. native's career and the second consecutive week the Buccaneers received one of the conference's weekly platitudes. Safety Shadarius Hopkins earns Big South Defensive Player of the Week honors last week following his performance against Elon.
Following a CSU turnover that resulted in Hampton's first touchdown of the game and narrowed the margin to seven points, Allen took the ensuing kickoff at the CSU 20. The senior cornerback took the ball up the left sideline, shrugging off a tackle at the 40 and went the distance for CSU's first kickoff return touchdown since the 2010 season.
The score sparked a 34-7 run over the final three quarters of the game as CSU came away with their first win of the season. Allen finished the day with two touchdowns overall, including a pick-six on Hampton's second drive of the game.
Monmouth wide receiver Reggie White Jr. earned Big South Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Campbell linebacker Jack Ryan was the Defensive Player of the Week. Monmouth running back Juwon Farri earned Freshman of the Week recognition.
