Buccaneers back on the field as they continue preps for April 13 Spring Game; Q&A with Jack Chambers

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern continued spring practices as the Buccaneers hit the field for the eighth time on Wednesday morning. The Bucs battled through a number of live tackling drills, before finishing the day with a two-minute drill culminating in a Kameron Brown touchdown reception and a Geoffrey Wall two-point conversion.

The CSU Athletic Communications Department caught up with rising redshirt sophomore quarterback Jack Chambers following the practice to discuss how spring practice has progressed under first-year Head Coach Autry Denson.

How has the energy level been this spring and what has it been like getting on the field this spring?
"There's a lot of energy – guys are moving around and are excited for the season. It's some energy we haven't seen in a while. Everyone is up-pace and moving and I see a bright future for this team. We very young and physical.

What's it like working and learning from Head Coach Autry Denson?
"He's a fun guy to be around. He talks a lot of trash, but it's all in fun and he is very relatable to the players. You can tell he is genuine and he cares for you. That is something we really appreciate in a coach."

The fast-paced practices are always exciting and fun to watch. What's the adjustment been like from a quarterback's perspective?
"The tempo is something we are adjusting to. Guys are moving around all of the time and we're starting to move faster and faster. As we master the concepts, everything will start slowing down and the game will slow down to us. We'll benefit with that as a future.

One of the key elements to the offense has been getting the ball out quickly and a re-emphasis on the passing game. How has it been adjusting to an up-tempo throwing offense from the spread option?
"It's exciting, definitely exciting throwing the ball. It's just something that we as a quarterback room, we've been waiting for and we're ready for.

It's a young quarterback group featuring three rising sophomores and a freshman. How is the group dynamic?
"I feel like this year we're getting closer and closer as a group. We're always there for each other, encouraging each other to make sure we're doing our jobs. We're always trying to make each other better and get out here and compete every day."

What do you and the offense still need to work on as we look ahead to the April 13 Spring Game?
"Consistency is something we need to keep working on. We make the big play every now and then, but we need to keep working on making the right reads every time. Once we do, this offense can be rolling real fast."
