Radebaugh and Bucs sign three players to National Letters of Intent

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern men's basketball has signed three players to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period, head coach Barclay Radebaugh announced on Wednesday. Deontaye Buskey, Phlandrous Fleming and Ty Jones will enroll at CSU and join the Bucs' roster for the 2017-18 campaign.

Buskey and Fleming will step into CSU's backcourt, while Jones will be a strong addition at forward. All three enjoyed excellent high school careers. Radebaugh commented on a trio that will look to make an impact on a unit that will return plenty of experience from this year.

"I am very excited to welcome three outstanding young men and basketball players to our CSU basketball family," Radebaugh said. "We have a special chemistry amongst our team and within our program right now and have made it a high priority to bring in the right people and players to join our returners next year."

"Phlandrous, Deontaye, and Ty all come from great families and winning programs, and have been fortunate to have first-class coaches throughout their high school career," Radebaugh continued. "I feel that all three will make immediate impacts within our basketball program and campus community upon their arrival. We are greatly looking forward to the opportunity to coach them throughout their college careers."

Buskey hails from Alabama and averaged 17 points, 5.2 assists and 3.5 steals per game at Daphne High School as a junior. He is ranked as the 15th best player in the state of Alabama's 2017 class by one recruiting service.

Fleming was a second-team all-state selection as a junior at Cedar Shoals High School in Athens, Ga. He was MVP of the Sweet South Tournament and filled out the stat sheet with averages of 16 points, eight rebounds, four assists and 3.5 steals per game during his junior campaign.

Jones was an all-region and all-state selection last year at Mississippi's Pontotoc High School. He averaged 22 points and eight rebounds per game. With still another left in the high school ranks, Jones has already tallied 1,650 career points.

"I continue to be amazed and thankful for the recruiting efforts of our staff," Radebaugh said. "BJ, Ahmad, Joey, Tee, and Colton all work extremely hard. Recruiting is a tough and time consuming part of our profession. I love the recruiting game and I particularly enjoy recruiting with our current staff."

2016 Charleston Southern Basketball Signees

Deontaye Buskey

Guard – 6-1, 160 – Daphne, Ala. – Daphne High School

Coach Radebaugh on Buskey: "I am extremely excited about the addition of Deontaye Buskey to our basketball family at CSU. "DD" has all of the attributes we love in our point guards. He is a 6'1", long, athletic lead guard whose athleticism and ability to score the ball at all three levels will allow him to have a super career at CSU. This summer, DD proved over and over again why he is one of the top players in the state of Alabama by putting up major numbers against some the elite programs on the AAU circuit. DD comes from a great family and is a standout leader at his school and in his community. He already exemplifies all of the things that we stand for at CSU."

Scott Golden (Hoop Exchange) on Buskey: "Deontaye Buskey is a well-equipped playmaker with a great eye for the game. With his ability to pass, shoot, handle pressure and defend, combined with his athleticism, speed and IQ, he will have an immediate impact. He's a great get for Charleston Southern."

Phlandrous Fleming

Guard – 6-4, 195 – Athens, Ga. – Cedar Shoals High School

Coach Radebaugh on Fleming: "Phlandrous epitomizes the word versatile. He is a 6'4", long, athletic perimeter player whose versatile skill set will allow him to play multiple positions at the college level. "Phlan is a relentless competitor who has the ability to impact the game in every way. He can defend, rebound, and score the ball at a high level. Phlan was an all-state player as a junior and is on track to be one of the best players in the state of Georgia this year. We watched Phlan a significant amount this summer and his motor is always on full blast. Phlan set himself apart with an effort and attitude to match his significant skillset. I am extremely excited to have a young man with Phlans's character and ability join our CSU basketball family."

Brendan Walker (Hoop Exchange) on Fleming: Phlandrous was one of the best shooters I saw this past year in AAU and high school. He has great size for a shooter and has a great feel and IQ. The game comes easily to him. He is a steal for Charleston Southern and has a chance to be an all-conference player for them in the Big South."

Ty Jones

Forward – 6-6, 215 – Pontotoc, Miss. – Pontotoc High School

Coach Radebaugh on Jones: "Ty is a huge addition to our basketball program at CSU. He is a 6'6", 215-pound powerful scorer who has the ability to impact the game in multiple ways. Ty's versatility comes from his length, skill, and physicality. He will be the all-time leading scorer and rebounder in the history of his high school. Ty will not only be one of the top players in the state of Mississippi, but is also a very good student. Like Phlan and DD, Ty has strong character, loves to compete, and knows how to win. Ty has a big personality and is a great fit for our university and our program. We are extremely excited to welcome him to CSU."

Chris Vandiver (Pontotoc High School Head Coach) on Jones: "Ty is an exceptional young mane. We are excited about his opportunity at Charleston Southern and we know they will benefit greatly from having him in their program."
