Keeling named Big South Freshman of Week for second time

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charleston Southern guard Christian Keeling has been named the Come Ready Nutrition Big South Conference Freshman of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced Monday.

Keeling averaged 18 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in road contests at VMI and Georgia. The Augusta, Ga., product came off the bench to score 17 points and grab five rebounds Tuesday at VMI. He went 13-for-17 at the free-throw line against the Keydets. Keeling returned to the starting lineup versus Georgia and tallied 13 of his team-high 19 points in the second half. He added six rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots.

Keeling was also named Big South Freshman of the Week on Nov. 28 after leading CSU to wins over Abilene Christian and Toccoa Falls. He leads the Bucs in rebounds and is their second leading scorer, and ranks among the leagues' top-ten in both categories.

Gardner-Webb senior forward Tyrell Nelson was named Big South Player of the Week. Nelson averaged 19.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 blocks in two wins last week.  He scored a season-high 24 points with nine boards and two steals to lead the Runnin' Bulldogs to a win at Nebraska on Sunday afternoon.

Also nominated for Freshman of the Week: Cory Gensler (Campbell), Brock Gardner (Liberty), JaShaun Smith (Longwood), Jo'Vontae Millner (Presbyterian) and MaCio Teague (UNC Asheville)
