CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charleston Southern freshman guard Christian Keeling has been named to the 2017 Big South Championship All-Tournament Team, the league office announced Sunday. Keeling is the first CSU player to earn the honor since Arlon Harper and Saah Nimley in 2013.
Keeling recorded back-to-back double-doubles en route to averaging 23.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in CSU's two contests. He posted 29 points and ten rebounds to lead the Bucs over Longwood in Tuesday's first round for their first tournament win since 2014. The Augusta, Ga., product followed with 18 points and 11 rebounds against the No. 1 seed and eventual champion Winthrop in the quarterfinals, his second double-double in a week versus the Eagles. Keeling shot over 58 percent (18-for-31) from the field in the two games, and made 11-of-12 free throws.
Winthrop's Keon Johnson, named Tournament MVP, and Xavier Cooks joined Keeling on the team. The Eagles beat Campbell on Sunday to earn the Big South's automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. Campbell's Chris Clemons and Gardner Webb's LaQuincy Rideau rounded out the team.
