CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern men's golf has signed two players to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period, Director of Golf Todd Selders announced. Ky Matsumoto and Alex Scott will enroll at CSU and join the Bucs for the 2017-18 season.
Matsumoto is a local product from Fort Dorchester High School, while Scott comes to Charleston Southern from Panther Creek High School in Raleigh, N.C.
Matsumoto earned runner-up medalist honors at both the South Carolina 8-AAAA region championship and 4-AAAA state championship in 2015. He was named to the all-state team, and garnered All-Lowcountry accolades from The Post and Courier. In 2016, Matsumoto played his way to medalist finishes at several local junior tournaments and placed in the top-10 at the South Carolina Junior Golf Tournament.
Scott is currently ranked 35th in the Carolinas Golf Association N.C. Boys Junior rankings and has achieved top-ten finishes at the 2016 Carolinas PGA Junior Championship, the 2016 "Big I" N.C. Championship and the 2015 and 2016 Irish Creek Fall Classic. He is a three-time All-Southwest Wake Athletic Conference Team selection. Scott earned runner-up honors at the SWAC Championship each of the last two years.
CSU is coming off back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Championship. The Bucs begin their spring season at the Sea Best Invitational Feb. 6-7.
