CSU tees off spring slate at Sea Best Invitational

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Charleston Southern opens its spring season this week at the Sea Best Invitational, hosted by Jacksonville University. Play at the TPC Sawgrass Dye's Valley Course begins with 36 holes Monday and continues with 18-hole final round play Tuesday.

Led by first-year coach Todd Selders, the Bucs will be tested in a 15-team field that features three squads inside the Golfstat Top-30 rankings in No. 27 Florida State, No. 13 North Carolina and No. 2 Florida. CSU will also measure itself against Big South foes Liberty, the league's highest ranked team (No. 32), Campbell and Winthrop.

Monday and Tuesday's action is the first of six events that will prepare CSU for the 2017 Big South Conference Championship. CSU is coming off back-to-back NCAA Regional appearances and is looking for more consistent play off the flashes of potential it displayed in the fall.

The Bucs finished tenth in last year's Sea Best Invitational, with Austin James T-10th finish leading the way. James recorded a two-over par three-round score for his sixth top-20 in as many events to open last year. The reigning Big South Player of the Year is looking to bounce back from an up-and-down fall campaign in which his best finish came at The Invitational at Kiawah (T-25th).

Joining James in the lineup for CSU are Jacques Wilson, Jake Ezell, Dylan Patscot and David Eller. Wilson, a transfer from Kansas, has enjoyed a strong semester thus far in qualifying rounds. Eller carded the best round of his career at the 2016 Sea Best Invitational, a final round one-over par 71.
