CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charleston Southern senior Jacques Wilson has been named the Big South Conference Golfer of the Week, while teammate Connor Moore is the Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Thursday. Wilson claimed his first collegiate victory Tuesday in Myrtle Beach at the Bash at the Beach. Moore placed in a tie for 15th in just his second collegiate event.
Wilson, a native of South Africa by way of Minnetonka, Minnesota, fired a final round four-under par 67 at the Surf Golf and Beach Club to erase a four-shot deficit and tie Newberry's Carlos Leandro atop the 60-player field. He won medalist honors by virtue of a scorecard playoff. Wilson (69-71-67 = 207) finished at -6 overall to lead the Bucs to a second place finish as a team.
Wilson is the second CSU player to earn Big South Golfer of the Week honors during Jason Payne's first season as head coach. Classmate Art Griffin earned the nod following his title at the East Bay Deli Classic in October.
Moore (72-75-72 = 219), who enrolled at CSU this spring after graduating from Bluffton High School, bumped up five spots Tuesday thanks to a final round one-over 72. His solid play helped CSU take the lead for much of the third round before finishing second.
