GREENVILLE, S.C. - Charleston Southern is tied for 16th place following Friday's opening round of play at the Furman Intercollegiate. The Bucs, at +17, are in front of Big South Conference foes High Point and Presbyterian, and just six shots outside the top-ten in the 21-team field.
No. 28 North Florida compiled a ten-under par 278 to take the day one lead heading into Saturday's second round. USC Aiken, ranked tenth at the Division II level, is second at -5 while Yale sits third at even par.
Individually, North Florida's Phillip Knowles is atop the 123-player field following a six-under 66. USC Aiken's Alex Ostensson and UNF's Michael Mattiace are three strokes back in a tie for second.
CSU was paced by three-over 75's from senior Jacques Wilson and sophomore Elliot Gothe on Friday. The duo is tied for 48th place. Dylan Patscot (+4 (T-61st)) and Connor Moore (+7 (T-95th)) contributed the other counted scores for coach Jason Payne's Bucs.
Wilson highlighted his first round with birdies on two of the first three holes. Gothe played the back nine at one-over par. Patscot played excellent golf for much of the day and was at level par through 15 holes before a tough closing stretch.
Saturday's second round is slated to begin at 8:40 a.m.
