GREENVILLE, N.C. - Charleston Southern senior Jacques Wilson posted a 36-hole total of two-under par 142 to take the clubhouse lead Monday at the East Carolina Intercollegiate. Wilson is the only competitor in the 54-player field in red numbers and holds a two-stroke lead on Georgetown's Sam Madsen entering Tuesday's final round at Brook Valley Country Club.
CSU enjoyed a solid day as a team and sits in a tie for third place with Campbell. The Bucs are nine shots behind the host Pirates for second and 12 back of Georgetown for the lead. Paced by Wilson's back-to-back 71's, CSU totaled a +13 301 in the opening round and followed with an excellent +7 tally on the second 18.
Wilson notched four birdies and 11 pars in each round, putting together steady play to put himself in position for his second win in a month. The South African bogeyed his closing hole but reeled off three birdies in a six-hole stretch from No.'s 12-17.
Art Griffin (T-13th) recorded a first round 75 and followed with a 73 in the afternoon to get into the top quarter of the field. Freshman Connor Moore (T-23rd) contributed solid golf for coach Jason Payne's club with rounds of 75 and 76. Elliot Gothe (T-44th) and Dylan Patscot (T-44th) completed the Bucs' lineup. Gothe showed strong resolve to bounce back from a rough opening round and shoot 75 in the afternoon.
CSU will begin Tuesday's final round off the first hole between 8:50 and 9:30 a.m. The Bucs will play alongside the Hoyas and Pirates as the top-three squads in the nine-team field.
