CSU comes off a tenth-place showing two weeks ago at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate. The Bucs held the round one clubhouse lead in that event, and have showed significant promise in each of the first two events.
Junior Brandon Smith has impressed in his first two Division I appearances. Smith tied for tenth place at the Ocean Course Invitational and threatened to win medalist honors at the Hummingbird before finishing tied for second. That effort earned Smith, a transfer from Odessa College, Big South Golfer of the Week honors.
Sophomore Connor Moore turned in a strong summer and has continued his solid play this fall. Moore tied for 14th at the Hummingbird thanks to three consecutive rounds at par or better.
Alan Smith, Parker Jones and Elliot Gothe have enjoyed stretches of quality play, and improved consistency should give CSU a chance to be a factor this week. CSU head coach Jason Payne said the layout at Alamance should allow for some low scores, meaning putting will be key.
The trip to Burlington is the start of a busy week for the Bucs. CSU will head to the Camden Collegiate this Saturday and Sunday.
