HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Charleston Southern closed out the first 36 holes of the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate on Monday afternoon as the Buccaneers currently sit eighth overall in the field.
Several groups were still on the course when play was called late Monday with athletes from Furman, Davidson, Memphis, and Dartmouth still attempting to close out the first round.
The Bucs were tied for fourth overall after the first 18 holes on their way to shooting a 296 as a team early in the action. CSU followed up with a 302 over the second round to sit fourth among Big South teams in the field.
Connor Moore posted the low round of the day for the Buccaneers with the sophomore putting together a first round 71, 1-under for CSU. He finished the day with five birdies overall to lead the Bucs and sit tied for 20th overall in the field.
Elliott Gothe and Alan Smith are both one stroke back from their teammate after carding a two-round total of 150. Gothe posted six holes under par on the day, including birdieing the 15th twice on the day, while Smith's consistent play put him with back-to-back 75's over the first two rounds.
Brandon Smith was one stroke back with a 151 after posting 76-75 over his first two rounds. Smith birdies the second hole in his first round while adding a birdie on the eighth over his second 18.
Brandon McBride rounded out the group taking the course for Head Coach Jason Payne in the Bucs' first action of the season. McBride is tied for 51st overall after posting a 79-76 in his first 36 holes, including four birdies over his second round.
Charleston Southern closes out the final round on Tuesday at the Arnold Palmer Signature Course at Wexford Plantation.
